WHY THIS WORK IS PERSONAL

He remembers
life on the streets.

At 18–19, Anthony spent about a year on the streets, beginning in Morogoro and then Dar es Salaam. Daily life meant hardship, uncertainty, and survival.

Safina Street Network helped rescue and restore him. Through that experience, God awakened a concern for the children he had left behind. After returning home, Anthony spent a year with his family, but that calling kept growing.

    The calling takes root

    At Safina Street Network’s shelter, the ministry began in Anthony’s heart as a calling from God.

    A vision of potential

    Anthony describes a vision of a large compound with different rooms. Each room represented the talents, skills, and gifts within children.

    Faith becomes outreach

    Street outreach began in Dar es Salaam, reaching children, sharing hope, and praying with them.

Alongside the outreach happening today, the ministry’s wider care model brings together learning, practical skills, recreation, and faith.

Education

Full support for primary and secondary schooling, including school fees and supplies.

Vocational training

Skills such as tailoring, masonry, mechanics, and art, with vocational learning focused on ages 12–15.

Sports & games

Recreation and community engagement that give children space to play and build purposeful, active lives.

Fellowship

Morning and evening devotions, prayer, and church life as part of a Christ-centered community.

Bible study

Detailed study of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, helping children grow in their relationship with God.

Care for the whole child

A RESPONSIBLE APPROACH TO CARE

Lasting support.

Care extends beyond a single encounter. The ministry’s framework connects protection, family relationships, and cooperation with people who understand vulnerable children’s needs.

Who this care is for

The wider care model prioritizes children aged 10–15, especially those most exposed to danger and abuse, including orphans and children from single-parent families. Its enrollment approach seeks gender balance, with an ambition to reach all street children over time. Current street outreach includes boys in Dar es Salaam.

Leadership & safeguarding

The leadership standard combines expertise in vulnerable children’s matters with born-again Christian faith and a passion for serving the Lord through children’s ministry. The safeguarding framework calls for leader supervision of every activity and a comprehensive Child Safety Policy with strict enforcement.

A safe setting & nurturing care

The residential care model centers on a safe, spacious location outside town, reducing the risk of children returning to street life. An initial six-month nurturing period focuses on physical, mental, and spiritual transformation.

Families, partners & authorities

Children’s organizations offer opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from experience. The ministry seeks cooperation with Railway Children Africa (RCA) for family tracing and reconnecting children with their parents. Its approach also includes cooperation with authorities and law enforcement, respect for domestic child-protection laws, and working with the legal system.
